Mourinho not feeling Wild about VAR now

-

because John Lundstram’s big toe was deemed offside.

After 33 minutes, Harry Kane thought he had completed a full house in scoring against every top-flight team he had ever faced.

Kane appeared to cancel out Sander Berge’s first goal in English football – which was a finely crafted and expertly finished by the Norwegian moments earlier – by sidestepping his marker to tuck home. But joy turned to bemusement and then anger when it was decreed John Egan’s clearance that ricocheted off the grounded Lucas Moura into the path of Kane had struck the Spurs’ player’s arm. It seemed desperately harsh considering Moura had been pushed over by Jack Robinson, the referee Chris Kavanagh played a good advantage and there was little the Brazilian could have done to avoid contact. But there was no excuse for the way Spurs folded in the second half.

They huffed and puffed in search of the equaliser but the hosts rubbed salt into wounds when sub Lys Mousset tapped home in the 69th minute from Enda Stevens’ pull-back.

And then six minutes from time, Oli McBurnie flicked in at the near post following another cross from the byline by Berge as the visitors’ rearguard again went AWOL.

Kane did eventually score from close range in the 90th minute with VAR this time allowing the goal but it was all too little too late.

The disallowed goal knocked the stuffing out of Spurs, who never looked like giving Mourinho his 200th Premier League win once VAR had his say.

Goal: Kane 90. after the decision. I know it is difficult to take and my players know what did and did not happen. But with 50 minutes to go, we have to be stronger.”

Blades manager Chris Wilder saw his side score their first league goals since March and said: “It has been a difficult time for us but that was more like it.

“We were good in both boxes and really aggressive in the middle.”

On Kane’s chalkedoff goal, Wilder added: “We are the unofficial champions of Europe in VAR decisions going against us so I can understand their frustrations.”
