Yes we Kanye! Star to run for President

BILLIONAIRE rap star Kanye West has announced he is to take on his friend Donald Trump for President of the United States.

With four months before election day, the 21-time Grammy winner celebrated America’s Independence Day by revealing his plans on Twitter.

He wrote on Friday: “We must realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for President of the United States. #2020VISION.”

Following his tweet, bookies slashed his odds of winning the White House from 500/1 to 50/1.

The rapper, who recently signed a 10-year deal with Gap through his Yeezy clothing brand, is reportedly yet to file any paperwork to get on state election ballots. He has missed the deadline for Texas, New York, and Indiana, but still has time to file as an independent candidate across most states.

His plans to run for President have attracted some heavyweight support. SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted he would back Kanye in his quest.

And wife Kim Kardashian also publicly pledged her support, retweeting Kanye’s statement and adding a US flag emoji.

Hip-hop star and fashion mogul Kanye has been criticised for his friendship with Trump, a Republican who has low support among Black Americans.

He has met the President at the White House, donning a “Make America Great Again” cap. His tweet marked at least the third time he has vowed to run for America’s highest office.

Registering will hardly put a dent in Kanye’s £1billion bank balance. However, the cost of running a campaign would see half of his fortune wiped out if he was to fund it himself.

If Kanye were to win, justice reform would be one of his cornerstone policies given his and wife Kim’s campaigning on the issue. Currently 2.3 million people are incarcerated in the US. One in three are black.
