Fern: This Morning ‘treated me poorly’

FORMER This Morning presenter Fern Britton has told how she quit the show because she was “treated pretty poorly”.

Fern, 62, below, admitted she had not intended to resign on the day but “something happened” that pushed her over the edge.

She said: “I began not to enjoy it so much and the morning I resigned, I didn’t know I was going to resign.

“Something happened and thought, ‘That’s it, really,’ and walked away and resigned.

“I was treated pretty poorly, actually, and after a while I just thought, ‘Sod it!’.”

Fern, who worked for the ITV programme for a decade until 2009, also denied rumours that she had left because co-host Phillip Schofield was earning significantly more.

She told

aI I radio show host: “Why would I leave a show to go to nothing if I was worried about money?”.

Last month Fern claimed a scandal dubbed “gastric band-gate” was the real reason she left.

After shedding five stone in 2008, Fern suggested it was all through hard work.When it later emerged she had a gastric band fitted, she was widely criticised.

Fern, said: “It ruffled a few feathers and I think. Perhaps, I became a bit of a liability to ITV.”

But she also said: “I didn’t know what Phillip was earning but I knew that I was earning plenty for me and you have to know what is enough for yourself.
