Kids are slip slidin’ away after dad buys 39ft Olympic helter-skelter

- By William Lailey

SUPERDAD Marc Decaro pulled off an Olympic-sized feat by installing a section of one of the world’s biggest slides... in his garden.

The floor layer paid £1,500 for a 39ft (12m) piece of the original Orbit Helter Skelter – built as part of the London 2012 Games.

And it has meant a very special lockdown treat for children Elise, 11, and six-year-old Zachary.

Marc, 40, said: “My daughter asked me to build her a treehouse in the garden, and to get to the treehouse we needed a set of stairs – so I put those in.

“Then I thought it would be an even better idea to install a slide, and everything else evolved from there. The slide came up on eBay as

a Buy It Now for £2,000 – but I made a cheeky offer of £1,500 and he accepted it.”

The section of the slide, which weighs a ton and a half, sits on a steep bank in the family’s back garden in Cardiff.

Marc and wife Claire, 39, called in help from ten friends to transport the slide in sections.

He added: “We have all our friends over and everyone loves it.”
