PLAYER ANALYSIS
RORY BURNS 6
Will be kicking himself as threw away good starts in both innings. Composed and steady before dismissals.
DOMINIC SIBLEY 6
Rustiness led to a bad miscalculation first time round. Looked much more assured for his second innings fifty.
JOE DENLY 4
Got himself in twice but did not go on and making the score he needed. Should make way in Manchester.
ZAK CRAWLEY 7
Another step forward for the young man who is coping well at this level. Confident and plenty more to come.
BEN STOKES 7
Scored runs, took wickets and cajoled his side. Could argue about decision at the toss but he has no regrets.
OLLIE POPE 4
Almost too confident. Has all the shots in the world but knowing when to use them is the key. Will improve.
JOS BUTTLER 4
Had the makings of a match-changing first innings before falling. Dropped Blackwood on 19 in the second.
DOM BESS 5
Did a useful job in the first innings but ineffective on the fifth day when spinners should come into their own.
JOFRA ARCHER 7
Bowled the best he has since last summer in the second innings. Pace and aggression but great skill too.
MARK WOOD 5
Full of effort and created several chances but the luck really wasn’t with him as only two wickets suggest.
JAMES ANDERSON 6
A real handful in the first innings but his threat faded in the second innings, especially with the older ball.
