Brothers battle sister for share of mum’s £850,000
Dr Leonardo de Mattos, from Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa where the experiment was devised, said: “This 5G telesurgery experiment showed the surgeon had effective control of the surgical robot, forceps and laser and could confidently perform high-precision laser cordectomies.
“This was largely because of the high-quality telepresence experience delivered by the robots and interfaces. These allowed the surgeon to manipulate the cadaver’s vocal cords as if he were in the operating room directly operating on a patient.”
The first “telesurgery” involving a human patient was carried out in 2001 with a patient in Strasbourg, France, had a gallbladder removed by a surgeon in New York.
While this pioneering operation showed the potential of “telehealth technology”, reliable repeats of the feat have been difficult for many years because of a lack of surgical robots and fast,
THREE brothers left emptyhanded while their sister pocketed their dead mother’s entire £850,000 fortune are fighting for the chance to sue her a second time.
Remo, Nino and David Rea have already lost one court fight with their former tennis coach sister Rita over their mum Anna’s decision to leave everything to her only daughter.
Anna Rea died, aged 86, in July 2016, leaving her £850,000 home in Tooting, south London, to Rita.
The three brothers went to the High Court, challenging the will. But Judge Jonathan Arkush rejected the brothers’ challenge, finding that the will was valid.
However, his judgment is now under attack as the three brothers seek to appeal and force a retrial of the case, claiming the trial was unfair and ended up in unseemly “bickering” in the witness box.
The court heard that the three sons were left emptyhanded after their mother declared in her final December 2015 will: “My sons have not taken care of
remotely supervised an op but not actually performed the procedure. Yet this most recent operation in Milan is the first to prove the 5G networks can be used to connect
me and my daughter, Rita, has been my sole carer for many years.”
Robin Howard – the barrister who has now taken up the brothers’ appeal of the High Court ruling – told Mr Justice Nugee the trial had presented real challenges since none of the trio had legal representation.
He argued that

Arkush left them at a disadvantage by ordering the trial to go ahead before they could engage a lawyer.
After an hour of argument, Mr Justice Nugee adjourned the appeal to allow lawyers time to obtain a transcript of the trial evidence.
The case will now return to court at a later date.
Surgeon operates from eight miles away in a test devised by Dr de Mattos, above
American College of Physicians. Dr de Mattos added: “Our experiment showed that a robotic telesurgery system can effectively exploit the enhanced capabilities of 5G networks to deliver massive amounts of data with ultra-low latency and high bandwidth – up to one gigabyte per second – between the operating room and a remote surgeon.
Evolving
“The results prove the feasibility of field hospitals in remote places or disaster scenarios.
“Technology and medicine are evolving rapidly, with artificial intelligence, robotic assistance and telecommunications set to play a critical role in enabling not only robotic telesurgery but also teleassistance and telementoring.”
