Kate’s runaround Louis just ‘wants to cuddle everything’

- By Richard Palmer

THE Duchess of Cambridge says Prince Louis is too young to grasp social distanc- ing and “wants to cuddle everything”.

Kate told how the two-year-old is struggling to cope with coronavirus restrictions when talking to parents for the launch yesterday of a BBC online initiative, Tiny Happy People, to help parents develop children’s communication skills.

She chatted with Kerry and Darren and their son Dexter, also two, in the gardens of Sandringham, Norfolk.

And Kate said: “Louis doesn’t understand social distancing. He goes out wanting to cuddle everything, particularly any babies younger than him.”

Kerry, from Norfolk, said of her Dexter: “He’s now taken to running everywhere.”

Kate, 38, replied: “Oh my God, I know that. You put Louis down and he’s off.”

She also opened up about Prince George, six, and Princess Charlotte, five, saying about their appetites: “My children have bottomless pits. I feel like a constant feeding machine.”

Dexter was asked by his mother: “Can you say Princess Kate?”

When he obliged and delivered the words with a big smile, the Duchess told him: “You are so clever. Look at you. So many words.”

Kate asked Dexter: “Is that your digger? It’s very nice. Louis would like that digger.” The future Queen has endorsed the Corporation’s Tiny Happy People project, aimed at children up to age four, amid concerns that around 25 per cent of all children, and as many as 42 per cent in some areas, are behind with language skills when starting primary school.

At that stage, they should be able to speak to their classmates in full sentences, ask teachers simple questions and understand what they are told to do.

Kate, dressed in a £1,565 long, black dress decorated with large white polka dots, described Tiny Happy People as “gold dust” for parents and said she wished she had had access, as a first-time mother, to the tips and tools available.
