Disastrous decision has made a circus of game says Jose

- By Matthew Dunn

JOSE MOURINHO claims the decision not to ban Manchester City from the Champions League is a “disaster” and football has been made to look like a “circus”.

The Tottenham manager fears the ruling has destroyed Financial Fair Play and given the green light to owners such as the Saudi Arabian group looking to take over Newcastle to come in and splash the cash.

Mourinho’s main complaint was that if City had been innocent they should not have been punished at all. But to punish them with a fine was equally wrong if they are guilty.

“In relation to the decision, in any case it is a disgraceful decision,” Mourinho, below, said. “If Manchester City is not guilty of it, to be punished by some millions is a disgrace. If you’re not guilty you’re not punished.

“In the other way, if you’re guilty you should be banned. So it’s also a disgraceful decision. In any case, it’s a disaster.

“If you’re guilty you should be banned from the competition. My criticism is not for City, I’m nobody to know if they’re guilty or not. My criticism is for the decision. I truly believe FFP is gone. So new owners, probably they will have this feeling of the circus door being opened so let’s go and enjoy it.

“Let everybody enjoy. And go inside for free, come out, go inside again, do it with freedom. Stay for the clown show and go out because I don’t like the horses show.

“I go out and come in. There is no control. Let people enjoy freedom. “When I say FFP should finish it is not because I don’t agree with the basic principles of FFP. It is because I don’t agree with the circus.

“I just say a club like Newcastle with a new owner who takes over, if there is no FFP he will be free to do what he wants and spend what he wants to get the best players in the world if he wants, if he can afford that, without hiding anything.”
