Be a Maverick at £4.8m Hollywood sell-off

A TREASURE trove of iconic Hollywood movie props including Tom Cruise’s Top Gun helmet and Darth Vader’s costume is expected to fetch £4.8million at auction.

More than 850 rare lots will be going under the hammer at the sale in Los Angeles next month.

The fighter pilot helmet worn by Cruise in his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the 1986 action movie is estimated to fetch between £40,000 and £56,000.

But that figure is set to be eclipsed by Vader’s Star Wars’ outfit – valued at up to £199,000.

An 11ft filming model of the Nostromo starship from 1979 horror film Alien also has a guide price of between £239,000 and £398,000.

Other memorabili­a on sale include Robin Williams’ Peter Pan sword from the 1991 film Hook; Sylvester Stallone’s boxing gloves from Rocky, the camera Alfred Hitchcock used to film the 1958 classic Vertigo and Jennifer Lawrence’s outfit from The Hunger Games.

There is even a price on Will Ferrell’s blue suit from 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy – yours for £2,400-£4,000.

Viewers who prefer more contempora­ry movies may also be attracted by items on offer from Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning ode to the film industry Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood.

Rick Dalton has a guide of between £36,000-£44,000.

The auction, with both online and in-person bids, will be broadcast live on August 26 and August 27.
