PICKS OF THE DAY
History: The Hunt For Cleopatra’s Tomb, Channel 5, 9pm
Few people can claim to know anyone with the same profession as Glenn Godenho (left). He is an Egyptologist and that does make him the perfect man to lead this interesting exploration into the groundbreaking work of archaeologist Kathleen Martinez, who is on a quest to find the burial site of Cleopatra. Egypt’s last pharaoh died in 30 BC, but the location of her tomb remains a mystery and Dr Martinez has dedicated her research to finding it.
Quiz: QI, BBC2, 9pm
The eclectic trio of Joe Lycett, Zoe Lyons and Liza Tarbuck join host Sandi Toksvig and regular contributor Alan Davies (all above) as questions are posed on the theme of reflections this week. The four will be trying to come up with interesting answers to Toksvig’s wide-ranging questions – while avoiding the most obvious ones. Little changes with QI but it is still very much a ratings winner for BBC2.
Documentary: Ambulance – Liverpool, BBC1, 9pm
This award-winning documentary further highlights the tremendous work of the Ambulance Service, focusing on the North West branch as they care for the people of Liverpool and all across Merseyside. The control room experiences a spike in calls from patients with breathing difficulties and when Sherilee (left) talks to a daughter whose mother has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, it proves as tough for the call handler as her own mum had the same illness. Meanwhile, call handler Brogan has to guide a caller through lifesaving CPR while they wait for an ambulance and there’s a full emergency at John Lennon Airport.
Comedy: There She Goes, BBC2, 9.30pm
The second series of this comedy with David Tennant and Jessica Hynes (above left and right) rumbles on tonight. Rosie is obsessed with Christmas, despite the fact that it is only mid-February, forever wanting to watch festive films and dragging Simon to buy a tree. So when she finds another special day marked on the calendar – President’s Day at the end of February – her parents wonder about celebrating that instead.
Film: Kingsman: The Secret Service, Film4, 9pm
A streetwise teenager is taken under the wing of his dead father’s old colleague, an agent working for a supersecret spy organisation. Will the youngster prove to be a chip off the old block by proving useful during a battle against a twisted, hi-tech genius? Action comedy based on a comic book, starring Colin Firth (right), Taron Egerton and Samuel L Jackson. Anyone who enjoys this tonight would be well advised to seek out the sequel too.
