Evil preachers inspired UK’s worst jihadists

- By Giles Sheldrick

SOME of Britain’s most notorious terrorists, hate preachers and jihadists have links to fanatics Anwar al-Awlaki and Abdullah el-Faisal.

The Counter Extremism Project links 99 extremists to Al-Qaeda operator al-Awlaki, who was killed in a US drone strike in Yemen in 2011.

Even after his death his hateful video lectures have inspired many to commit terror acts and wage jihad abroad.

Usman Khan, who killed two and wounded three in a London Bridge stabbing frenzy last November, was radicalised by the videos and British preacher Anjem Choudary eulogised al-Awlaki after his death.

Greenwich-born “White Widow” terrorist Sally Jones wed IS hacker Junaid Hussain, who released personal information on the drone operator who killed al-Awlaki.

CEP has linked 52 extremists to el-Faisal, including 7/7 bomber Germaine Lindsay and 2017 London Bridge jihadist Khuram Butt, who led a murderous stabbing rampage through Borough Market which killed eight people and injured 48.

Others include terrorist Sudesh Amman, who was shot dead after stabbing and wounding two people in south London in February, while wearing a fake bomb vest.

Deported from the UK in 2007, el-Faisal had links to Omar Bakri Muhammad, who created the banned al-Muhajiroun network.

Al-Muhajiroun influenced jihadists including Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, who murdered Fusilier Lee Rigby in 2013.
