Super-pup bought for record £12k

- By Paul Jeeves

A COLLIE has smashed the world record price for a young sheepdog after selling for £12,000.

Tynygraig Jet, just 10 months old, was sold at the prestigious Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorks, in its first ever virtual sale.

The super-pup, bred by Dewi Jenkins of Tal-y-bont in Ceredigion, mid Wales, is a daughter of Kemi Taff, who sold for £7,980 in October at Bala, Gwynedd.

Jet’s buyer was Philip Wood, who farms 2,700 acres in Shropshire.

His wife Sue Wood said: “She’s a lovely dog. We are convinced she found us as when we went to see her she jumped in our vehicle. Dewi said she had never done anything like that before.”

Jet was bought as an eventual replacement for Mr Wood’s current 10-year-old collie Jeff.

His acquisition will be used solely as a work dog on a flock of up to 4,000 breeding ewes and 480 beef breeding cattle.

The previous record for a dog under 12 months was £7,035 set in 2018.
