Fairer to make furloughed staff repay huge virus debt

AS a retired person who received nothing from Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s furlough scheme, it’s very nice for some and I don’t begrudge them a penny (“Rishi hints at huge tax hikes to pay for £190bn virus spree”, July 16).

However plans are afoot to raise taxes andVAT to repay the huge debt. So my meagre income is under threat.

So how about only taxing the recipients of the scheme? The Government know who they are. Much fairer.
