CAN STAYCATIONS EVER MATCH A FAMILY HOLIDAY ABROAD?

-

Yes

AFTER years of fighting our way through airports and humourless security personnel for our two weeks in the sun I’m looking forward to holidaying in the UK (“Chips, pints and Mr Whippy...for the perfect staycation”, July 17).

We had some golden holidays in Cornwall when our children were little, far more memorable than sitting around a crowded hotel pool for days on end.

The only reason we go abroad in the summer is for guaranteed sunshine. But we’ve had more than our fair share of rainy days in the Med.

No

WHEN I was a kid we went to a holiday camp in Wales and the accommodation was so cold and damp we came home with respiratory tract infections.

It rained all week and to keep ourselves occupied we played snooker and table tennis for hours on end. I got so good at it I won a prize – a weekend at one of the company’s other miserable camps.

Covid-19 restrictions mean it’s barely worth the hassle of going abroad this summer but we’ll be digging out our passports and sun cream as soon as we can.
