FIVE SIZZLING NEW ARRIVALS

- All wines available from www.jascots.co.uk

1

Estate Tokaji Dry Furmint, Zsirai 2015 (£13.16, 12%)

Furmint is Hungary’s most planted grape variety and this one is made by Kata Zsirai, Hungary’s 2018 winemaker of the year. She has run the family winery with her sister Petra since their father died in 2011. It’s full-bodied and rich, with plenty of fresh peaches and hints of blossom – perfect with pork and lamb.

2

Pecorino Offida Organic Tenuta de Angelis 2018 (£10.62, 14%) Pecorino is suddenly popular this summer. A hard-to-grow grape variety with low yields, but very aromatic with fresh stone fruit. This wine hails from Marche (pronounced Markay), an off-the-beaten track region on the eastern side of central Italy.

3

Figuière Rosé,

IGP Mediterranee, Figuiere-Provence 2019 (£12.19, 13%)

This crisp, dry rosé is made with cinsault grapes which are the classic variety from the Languedoc. The vineyards lie a few hundred metres from the sea between Marseille and Nice. A great wine for summer salads and seafish.

4

Cochon Volant Rouge 2018 (£11.20, 13.5%) The label features a “flying pig” in tribute to the wild boars of Languedoc who try to steal the grapes before harvest. Volant means to steal or to fly in French! Fantastic value red wine with lots of juicy fruit made with a blend of syrah, carignan and grenache.

5

Losada Mencia Spain Bierzo (£12.58, 14.5%)

Bierzo is a tiny wineproducing region in northwest Spain – there are only 70 wineries and Losada is one of the top ones. The grape variety mencia produces a medium-bodied red which still packs a punch and is great for barbecues.
