Grandmama would be proud! Margaret’s grandson in 2,000-mile rowing triumph
ROYAL action man Arthur Chatto earned a hero’s welcome and a big hug from his girlfriend after finishing a 2,000-mile rowing challenge.
The dashing grandson of Princess Margaret was greeted by his emotional family at the end of his record-breaking adventure circumnavigating Britain. The 21-year-old student who is 26th in line to the throne cast off on July 8 with a four-man team. They have so far raised £21,059 for the British Red Cross and Just One Ocean.
Gruelling
In the build-up to the gruelling trip Arthur gained an army of female admirers as he shared pictures of his training regime with 150,000 Instagram followers.
But despite the attention Arthur only had eyes for one girl yesterday.
His girlfriend Lizzie Friend was on hand to hug her hero on his return at St Katherine Dock, London.
Weary Arthur and crewmates Harry Lidgley, 22, Oliver Dawe-Lane, 21, and Charles Bromhead, 21, became the youngest crew to row around Britain during their 38 days at sea.
The four lit flares and cracked open champagne then celebrated by jumping into the Thames to cheers from friends and family.
Arthur and Lizzie met at university and Arthur took her to Royal Ascot in 2018.
He and his brother Samuel, 23, are the Eton-educated sons of Lady Sarah and Daniel Chatto.
Ardent environmentalist and adventurer Arthur enjoys extreme sports such as ice diving in Greenland, climbing in the Alps and endurance rowing.
Although he tries to keep his royal connections hidden he has said he is a fan of TV drama The Crown.
He said: “Yes, I have watched it. I guess it’s only an interpretation. So I just kind of remember what they’re actually like and don’t let the TV persona mar my judgment of any of them.”
