Smashed hits! Many of us sing wrong words

-

IF you’ve ever been laughed at for singing the wrong lyrics to a song, you are not alone.

Millions of us are incorrectly singing along to popular hits, a study has found.

The most common mistake is saying “Sue Lawley” instead of “So Lonely” in The Police’s 1978 hit track. Many also sing: “Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tangerine...” replacing tambourine with the fruit in the Abba hit.

The study of 2,000 adults commissioned by Earex ear drops found more than half of adults believe words aren’t pronounced clearly in songs.

Four in 10 put their mistake down to modern tunes being too fast.

But one in eight admitted the error is likely to be down to their deteriorating hearing.

Clare Campbell, from Earex, said: “It can be easy to hear one thing and think that’s what is being said.”

CHILD discipline is major cause of friction between parents and grandparents, a study has found.

For one in seven mums and dads the rows over child rearing are so bad they limit the time the seniors can be with the youngsters.

The subjects that provoke the most disputes between the generations involve discipline, meals and TV/screen time.

Other contentious subjects included manners, health and safety, bedtime, treating some grandchildren differently from others and sharing photos or information on social media.

More than 2,000 American parents were quizzed for CS Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health at Michigan Medicine.

Co-director Dr Sarah Clark said grandparents are a great source of support and advice but if they “contradict or interfere with parenting choices, it can have a serious strain on the relationship”.
