Tesco offers free delivery like Amazon

TESCO Clubcard Plus holders are to be given free delivery in a bid to compete with Amazon.

The store chain’s boss, Dave Lewis, announced the decision after the online retail giant said its Prime customers would get free delivery on Amazon Fresh food orders over £40.

He said Prime and Tesco’s £7.99-a-month loyalty scheme were similar and there was an opportunity “to think about how we put delivery into Clubcard Plus”. He said: “That’s always been the direction of travel.”

Major supermarkets currently charge for delivery. Amazon Fresh aims to expand beyond London and the South-east.
