WARNING OVER BANK SCAM CALLERS
BOGUS callers pretending to be from a bank security team are ripping off customers, warns Trading Standards. The alert coincides with emails and calls Crusader has received from people. In the scam
callers ask them to verify three large sums paid by using their debit card, which they deny. The person is then told that their bank is investigating fraud at their local branch.
In one instance someone was asked
to send £15,000 to an account to “test procedures”. The caller asked them to read out the phone number on their card and promised a response. The number was then ‘spoofed’ and money transferred.
