Dettori lands another Group 1 in sparkling Pier show

- By Andy MacMorrin

PALACE PIER maintained his unbeaten record with a dominant display under Frankie Dettori in the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

Dettori opted to head for France, despite travel restrictions meaning he will need to quarantine for 14 days on his return to the UK.

And it proved worth it as John Gosden’s youngster claimed his fifth win from as many starts, powering home to win by three-quarters of a length from Alpine Star with Circus Maximus a further five lengths adrift in third.

Dettori said: “He is special.” And Gosden added: Everything will now revolve around him running in the QEII on Champions Day at Ascot.”

❑ PAUL HANAGAN will return from a lengthy absence with two rides at Beverley tomorrow ahead of York’s Ebor Festival starting on Wednesday.

Hanagan has been sidelined since breaking his back in a fall at Newcastle in February.
