Blues on trophy trail says Mount
MASON MOUNT believes that Chelsea are ready to take a big step forward next season under manager Frank Lampard.
England midfielder Mount, 21, came of age in a breakthrough campaign as the club clinched Champions League qualification.
The Blues have now added Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig marksman Timo Werner to their squad.
Chelsea are also locked in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz and Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell.
Mount said: “There are things we have to work on to get better but we are on the right path.We are driven to win trophies.
“The gaffer has been there and done it before. He knows when to put his arm around you and when to tell you that you need to improve on something, or look at your game and see where you can do better.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has become Stoke’s fourth summer signing.
The 33-year-old former Nigeria international won a host of honours during an 11-year stay at Stamford Bridge and returns to English football after a spell in the Turkish top-flight with Trabzonspor.
Potters boss Michael O’Neill said: “John made it clear he wants to get back into the Premier League and finish his career there. Hopefully he can do that with Stoke.”
Mikel made more than 370 appearances for Chelsea after joining them from Norwegian club Lyn in 2006.
He joins Morgan Fox, James Chester and Steven Fletcher at Stoke ahead of the new Championship season.
