Scoring in front of my baby son was a perfect day

- By Jeremy Cross

DAVID SILVA has revealed his most perfect day in a Manchester City shirt – when his son Mateo got to watch him play at the Etihad.

Silva was forced to miss large chunks of the 2017-18 season after his first child was born 15 weeks prematurely.

Pep Guardiola allowed him to fly back to Spain to visit Mateo and partner Yessica in a Valencia hospital, where his son spent five months fighting for his life.

But eight months later Mateo was well enough to be taken to the Etihad as his dad made his 250th Premier League appearance – two years ago today against Huddersfield.

Silva celebrated the occasion with a special goal for his special boy in a 6-1 thumping. The gifted midfielder, who took mascot Mateo on to the pitch beforehand, right, said nothing could top it in his glittering 10-year City career.

“It was a special day, a perfect day. It was hard because when I was visiting him in the hospital many thoughts came into my head,” said Silva.

“One was the wish that I could bring him to the stadium so I could play for him.

“And on that day

I was very lucky he could make it and that I could score that nice free-kick for him on his first visit to the Etihad. It was a perfect day.”

He paid tribute to Guardiola for helping him cope with the most difficult and challenging period of his life. He added:

“I really appreciate what he did for me. It was a special year because after all he went through, Mateo ended up being strong and healthy. “Then we won the league, so it was a very special season. “Football was the only escape I had at the time and I’m happy because in the end all went well.”
