Clarke defends his decision on Dykes Grealish shows not so-tweet feelings

- DAVE ARMITAGE By Andy Newport

JACK GREALISH has let his feelings be known after his latest snub by England boss Gareth Southgate.

AstonVilla skipper Grealish, above, was widely tipped to make the squad for the Nations League clashes with Iceland and Denmark, but was left out.

His omission seems all the stranger given that Southgate chose to include Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips, left, for the first time.

Grealish liked a Tweet from Sky Bet which pointed out his impressive stats in the last term. As furiousVilla fans took to social media, Grealish gave his seal of approval to the tweet after the squad was announced.

The Sky Bet tweet read: “Last year Gareth Southgate said that Jack Grealish must gain more Premier League experience to earn a call up. 19/20 stats: Grealish 36 PL appearances, 8 goals, 6 assists, 9 MOTMs. Phillips 0 PL appearances.”

STEVE CLARKE says he has not handed Lyndon Dykes a Scotland call-up to kill off Australia’s interest.

QPR’s £2million signing from Livingston was born on the Gold Coast.

But the forward, 24, whose parents hail from Dumfries, has accepted a call-up to Clarke’s Nations League squad.

Scotland manager Clarke said: “It’s not a case of rushing someone in to cap them so they can’t do anything else.

“I spoke to Lyndon a long time ago.

“I didn’t put any pressure on him.

“It was important for Lyndon to make the decision he wanted to make.”

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney also gets his first call-up for games with Israel and the Czech Republic.
