007 Craig’s heartbreak as dad dies of cancer at 77
JAMES Bond star Daniel Craig has been left devastated after his father passed away aged 77 from liver cancer.
Ex-Merchant Navy midshipman Tim Wroughton Craig bore a striking resemblance to his son, 52, and attended some of his premieres.
Mr Wroughton Craig divorced Carol Olivia Williams, mother of Daniel and his sister Lea, when the star was a teenager living in Merseyside.
After leaving the Merchant Navy he became the landlord of two Cheshire pubs – the Ring o’ Bells in Frodsham and the Boot Inn in Tarporley. He later remarried, having second son Harry with current wife Kirsty and was living near Oswestry in Shropshire when he died last Thursday.
In recent years Mr Wroughton Craig was director of a recruitment company in his wife’s name, Kirsty Craig Associates.
Tim was with Kirsty when attending the Chester premiere of his son’s first Bond movie, Casino Royale, in 2006. Two years later he went to the Cheshire premiere Quantum Of Solace.
Tim explained at the time: “He doesn’t talk about me and I don’t talk about him. But I am extremely proud of him as he is a very fine actor.
“Life’s a journey, the desire to find your bliss, the ultimate quest – he got lucky.”
Craig’s fifth and final 007 outing, No Time To Die, is due for UK release on November 12 having been postponed from April due to lockdown.
His publicist Laura Symons said the Craig family would not be issuing a statement. of
