Three more countries face quarantine order
MORE holidays were thrown into chaos last night as Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Jamaica were added to the Government’s controversial quarantine list.
Travellers returning from these countries will have to self-isolate for 14 days from 4am on Saturday.
All three are above the Government’s threshold of 20 new cases per 100,000 people. Switzerland is at 22, Jamaica 20.8 and the Czech Republic 20.2.
Other popular destinations seeing a rise in infections include Iceland and Greece, which recorded its highest number of infections yesterday – 293.
Countries are being monitored by the Joint Biosecurity Centre, which last week added Croatia,Austria andTrinidad and Tobago to the list. Meanwhile the UK Government is trialling payments for lowincome households who are ordered to quarantine. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said people in Oldham and Blackburn and Darwen and Pendle, which have local lockdowns, will be eligible at first. They will get an extra £13 a day if they are claiming universal credit or working tax credit. Mr Hancock said: “We’ll see how that goes, with the potential to roll it out further.”
