Amazon boss worth record $200bn
JEFF Bezos has become the first person to be worth more than $200billion, seeing his fortune skyrocket because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Amazon boss passed the $200billion (£151.5billion) milestone as the online retailer saw its share price surge by two per cent on Wednesday. His personal wealth is now greater than that of at least 69 countries in the world.
His bank balance is the largest ever amassed.The 56-year-old’s 11 per cent stake in Amazon makes up more than 90 per cent of his fortune.
He also owns theWashington Post newspaper, aerospace company Blue Origin and other private investments.
Amazon has seen its share price rise nearly 80 per cent since the beginning of the year, as Covid-19 forced people to remain in their homes.
Bezos is now worth nearly £68billion more than the world’s second-richest person, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, 64, who is worth £88billion.
