CLAIMING WAS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT

-

● NHS administrator Vivienne Payne took out a loan from Marks & Spencer which involved paying a monthly PPI fee.

Her husband Telford, of Watford, Herts, said: “Some seven years ago we made a claim, successfully, got around £4,000 back, and thought nothing more of it.

“Then I got a phone call from MoneyPlus Legal and they offered to put forward another claim.”

In February this year the couple put in their claim and some eight weeks ago got about £7,800 back – twice the amount of the first claim.

Telford added: “The costs were 25 per cent of that plus some insurance payments.

“My wife was retiring the week the cheque came. It was well worth the effort.”

● QUALITY Care Commission inspector Robert Burdis, 49, from Darlington, Co Durham, got £7,000 back from the insurer LV two years ago for an unnecessary PPI payment on a loan.

Working with MoneyPlus Legal, he made another claim against LV and received a further £5,400, but had to pay £2,500 in legal costs. Rob said: “I would encourage other people to use a law firm to see whether it is worth making further claims. Yes, the legal fees were quite high but it was worth it.

“Firms should really come clean about what they owe customers.”

LV said: “While we cannot comment on individual cases, and we closed our banking operation in 2008, we are confident we have reimbursed customers eligible for compensation fairly and in line with the regulations.”

● JONATHAN Brown, 58, initially received £600 back from HSBC to cover the commission he had paid on a PPI policy.

The firm he used recommended he pursue another claim with solicitors.

He took legal advice and was eventually repaid an extra £4,036.

His legal fees came to some £2,600.

Mr Brown, who lives near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, said: “I had no idea I was entitled to all my money back until I was told I could claim it. It was well worth the effort.”

HSBC will not comment on individual cases but urged people to contact them directly rather than use a third party.
