SHE DIES TOMORROW ★★★
(Cert 15, 85mins) On digital now
THIS high-concept horror begins by cleverly, if slightly laboriously, sending us down the wrong path.Amy is a recovering alcoholic who is filled with a sense of impending doom.
She’s got Mozart’s Requiem on repeat and shops online for a cremation urn. Then, after moping around her Los Angeles home for longer than can be healthy (or entertaining), she phones a friend.
Jane (Jane Adams) answers in a concerned but weary tone. When she rolls up for what feels like an umpteenth intervention,Amy (Kate Lyn Sheil, below) is drunk and repetitive.
“I am going to die tomorrow,” she keeps saying. Then, when we’re settling into another arty addiction flick, something interesting happens. It turns out Amy’s morbid conviction is infectious, as her friend becomes convinced she too is going to die the following day. It’s stylish, fortuitously topical and occasionally darkly amusing. But it feels a lot longer than its 85 minutes. It seems infectious dark moods just aren’t quite as exciting as zombie bites.
