MUSIC MY SIX BEST ALBUMS
KATRINA LESKANICH
KATRINA & The Waves star Katrina, 60, is best known for hits Walking On Sunshine and her Eurovision winner Love Shine
A Light. New album Hearts, Loves & Babys by Katrina from Katrina & The Waves is out now.
KARLA BONOFF:
Karla Bonoff (Columbia)
She’s known mostly as a songwriter, she wrote hits for Linda Ronstadt, but this was her own debut album. She sings like a songwriter –melodic, clear, sultry and honest.
MAMA CASS: Mama’s Big Ones
(Dunhill)
She was the biggest influence on my singing. She has a strident and melodic delivery and a folk background, so every word is heard. My mother played this every day.
EMMYLOU HARRIS: Quarter Moon In A Ten Cent Town (Warner Bros)
This is pure Emmylou. It’s hard to figure out some of the words she’s singing but it flows over you. She is more than just a country artist. She’s remarkable.
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO: The Velvet Underground & Nico (Verve)
What a debut and what a cover – the famous Warhol banana. I loved Nico’s delivery, it’s creepy, low key, and magical. She was a huge influence on me for eyeliner alone. The drummer, Moe Tucker, was a housewife mother of five who stood up to play.
MILES DAVIS: Kind Of Blue
(Columbia)
The definition of cool.An incredible line up of musicians producing the greatest jazz album of all time.
JONI MITCHELL: Blue (Reprise)
A fresh exploration of relationships done in a beautiful poetic fashion. She has originality and energy, and was very interested in jazz and folk. The result is very eclectic and quite strange.
