England stars in ‘ bubble’ sent home for seeing girls
TWO future stars of England football returned home from Iceland in shame after breaching their team’s Covid “bubble” to meet two women.
Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, 18, and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden, 20, were kicked out of the squad by manager Gareth Southgate.
The pair were filmed meeting the local girls in a non- England booked room at their team’s hotel, breaking strict coronavirus restrictions.
It has not been suggested anything untoward occurred between the women and the two players.
Yesterday the Three Lions pair were told they would not be travelling with the squad to Denmark.
They made their senior England debuts in Saturday’s 1- 0 Nations League win over Iceland.
Southgate’s men were banned from meeting anyone outside of their bubble and only allowed to go to their training facilities and the match.
The pair’s conduct in bringing girls back has also contravened the FA’s behavioural rules.
Nadia Sif Lindal Gunnarsdottir, 20, said she had been chatting with Greenwood for a “couple of days” before he and Foden visited Iceland.
The stars then sneaked the model and her cousin Lara Clausen, a 19- year- old law student, into their strictly quarantined hotel. Speaking of the players’ actions Southgate said: “Obviously they have been naive. I recognise their age but the whole world is dealing with this pandemic. Now they will have to travel back.” He added: “Nothing has happened in the areas we occupy in the hotel.”
It was claimed the Icelandic girls did not go into the players’ room but other rooms were booked.
