- By The Scout ( Chris Goulding

TALENTED apprentice Ray Dawson has now put behind his problems out of the saddle and can reward those who have supported him by landing today’s QTS Ayr Gold Cup with Spanish City.

Dawson admitted he had a problem with drink and drugs but now has his career back on track thanks to numerous trainers that include Roger Varian, who is responsible for

( 3.40). Dawson’s 5lb allowance will be a huge plus for Spanish City who posted his best effort when third behind Hey Jonesy at Royal Ascot in June.

He now meets that rival on 10lb better terms. He is also weighted to confirm his superiority over recent Doncaster winner Stone Of Destiny who was behind him in sixth place at Ascot.

Market leader Mr Lupton, 12th in that Royal Ascot contest, commands respect after his victory at the Curragh on Sunday but his 5lb penalty will make life tough.

The ground will be

SPANISH CITY

ideal for class act

ADDEYBB ( 1.55, treble).

He posted his best performance when chasing home Lord North on his recent run at Royal Ascot in June.

KING’S LYNN ( 2.30, nb) can make it a royal celebration for the Queen, his owner and breeder, by taking the QTS AYR Silver Cup.

The colt was far from disgraced when second to the smart Starman at Doncaster last month when running off a 2lb higher mark.

Eye- catcher

KULTHUM ( 3.05) can make up for missing the break at York last time when finishing late to take third behind Miss Amulet.

And her trainer Richard Fahey can complete a double with

( 3.25, nap) at Newbury.

Despite having only his second outing, the colt ran a cracker when third behind Campanelle in a Group One at Deauville last month. Bahrain Pride, unbeaten in his two starts, is the one for the forecast.

Earlier on the card, the rejuvenated TIS MARVELLOUS ( 1.40) can add to last week’s success at Leicester.

STARCAT ( 2.15) indicated that he is now ready to get his head in front after recently finishing fourth behind Strait Of Hormuz at Doncaster when running off a 1lb higher mark.

After a promising seasonal return

ELARQAM ( 2.50) has found an ideal opportunity to put behind him recent disappointments.
