BAKE OFF’S BACK ... WITH A CRASH, BANG, DOLLOP!
BAKE Off launches with a bang tonight when a fly in the tent sparks a disaster that ends with one baker’s cakes crashing to the floor.
The series return, marked with a parody of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, sees pharmacy dispenser Sura, 31, bowl into fellow baker Dave Friday after trying to swat the bug.
And in unprecedented scenes stunned Dave drops four of his six cakes just as they are about to be judged.
Sura, who breaks down in tears over the incident, tells him: “I’m so sorry. Oh my God. I’m so sorry there was a fly I went to shoo it away and I knocked it.”
Security guard Dave, 30, insists: “Don’t worry it is fine. I’m sure they can go by what they looked like before it went over.” Co- hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas rally them both and Matt reassures Sura: “The good news is the front two are totally fine. We will tell Paul what happened.” Channel 4 viewers will see how things play out tonight but Dave does not appear to be penalised. The first show was celebrated on Instagram with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith teaming up with Matt and Noel for the Queen snap.
Disaster strikes again tonight as 32- year- old project manager Mark Lutton drops a sponge he has resting in the fridge. Sura also sees her own showstopper cake topple over.
A source said: “In terms of incident and controversy it is right up there with anything that has happened before.”
