Cyborg implants link humans to computers
NEW 3D implants have been developed that can link the brains of humans to computers like technology often seen in sci- fi films.
The breakthrough could give new hope to paralysed patients, British scientists say. In their study the scientists developed a prototype neural implant that has been used to stimulate the spinal cord of animals with injuries. The technology has been shown to also fit well on the surface of a human brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles.
Professor Ivan Minev, at the University of Sheffield, said: “The research we have started has demonstrated how 3D printing can be harnessed to produce prototype implants at a speed and cost that hasn’t been done before.” The study is published in Nature Biomedical Engineering.
