IF EVER a vintage bride wondered what on earth to wear for her big day, she should gaze upon MP Esther McVey’s elegant outfit and copy forthwith.

At 52 and getting hitched for the first time, Esther – whom I remember fondly from when we shared the GMTV sofa – aced the goal of wearing white while not resembling a crumbling meringue or an antique bridesmaid.

Instead, she managed to look supremely elegant, enviably svelte and truly happy with a sophisticated swish of ivory material, shoes so divine they should have their own Twitter account and a hint of veiling to make sure she couldn’t be mistaken for anyone but the blushing bride. A veritable fashion tour de force.

I FEEL for singer Lewis Capaldi, whose mother makes it her business to pass on to him all the negative comments his social media evokes. He says: “Mum, you built up my self- esteem over years, now you’re systematically destroying it.”
