Going for gold .. autumn casts colourful spell

But But termere looked twice as glorious ye sterday when th e green, gold and purple of its surrounding slopes was reflected on its millpond sur face.
The pine trees and heather scen er y gave a final glimpse of t h e welcome Indian Summer at the beauty spot in Keswick, Cumbria.
Today brings this year’s autumn equinox, when summer officially ends and the colder months are with us.
Mo st parts of the countr y will continue to bat he in sunshine bu t the rest of th e week will se e more typical autu mna l weath er, with temperatures dipping, winds gusting in and showers scattered across the country.
Co n ditions may even b e severe enough for th e Met Office to name its first weather warning of the season, Storm Aidan.
Brian Gaze of Weather Outlook said: “We’ll switch to autumn proper. A wet- and- windy midweek will be followed by polar air.”
Met Office expert Marco Petagna added: “The Atlantic jet- stream will power up and bring a big change to rain and wind.”
Aidan is expected to bring 65mph gusts and polar air will follow, dragging temperatures down as low as 12C ( 53F).
Coming in off the Atlantic, it will buffet the north first later today, then spread to the south of the country tomorrow.
Scotland is expected to see the first snow of the autumn by the weekend while London will be down to a noticeably chillier 15C ( 59F) by Thursday.
