ACTRESS Jennifer Aniston thrilled fans by hosting a mini Friends reunion during the Emmy Awards.

She was joined at home by her former co- stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow after earlier making a surprise on- stage appearance alongside host Jimmy Kimmel.

He asked why Courteney, 56, was with Aniston – and she replied: “Of course I’m here, we live together.”

Then Aniston said: “We’ve been roommates since 1994, Jimmy,” a nod to the Friends’ premiere date.

Kudrow later appeared, making a joke about living with her pals.

The show kicked off with Kimmel making jokes about coronavirus and quarantine before he was joined on stage by Jennifer to present the award for best lead actress.

Kimmel, 52, wore a pair of rubber gloves to douse the envelope containing the winner’s name in disinfectant. He then put it in a waste basket and set it on fire audience.

Aniston used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze allowing the host to retrieve the envelope with tongs. It took her four attempts to finally douse the flames.

Jen was nominated as outstanding lead drama actress for her portrayal of a TV anchor in Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. But she lost out to Zendaya for her role as Rue in the dark, high school show Euphoria.

The 24- year- old former Disney Channel star is the youngest to win the award. Last year’s winner, Jodie Comer,, was 26 when she took the award in the same category in front of a cut- out for Killing Eve. Zendaya appeared via a link from home, surrounded by her family, as she accepted the award. She said: “I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating.

“But I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there.”

The biggest winner in the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards was Schitt’s Creek – shown here on Netflix – which took a clutch of awards. Star Catherine O’Hara was best comedy actress and Eugene Levy was best lead actor.

Murphy took the supporting actor and actress gongs. It also won outstanding comedy series as well as awards for writing and directing. The only British winner was Jesse Armstrong, the creator of Succession. The former Peep Show writer used his acceptance speech to criticise Boris Johnson and Donald Trump for their responses to the pandemic. Speaking from London, he said: “Un- thank you to the virus, for keeping us all apart this year. Un- thankyou to President Trump for his crumby and uncoordinated response. Un- thank you to Boris Johnson and his government for doing the same in my country. And un- thank you to the media moguls who do so much to keep them in power.”

Comedy- drama Succession follows the wealthy and powerful Roy family, headed by actor Brian Cox’s Logan Roy, a media magnate.
