100 today... in my home for 100 years

-

A SPINSTER will celebrate her 100th birthday today – in the same terraced house where she has lived her entire life.

Vera Bunting moved into the three- bed property with her parents in 1921 when she was six months old and has no plans to move.

Despite having two flights of stairs, with her bedroom on the first floor and the bathroom on the second, she still gets around the place.

She has travelled all over the world but Vera lives in beautiful Ambleside in the Lake District and said

Unchanged... Vera, left, the original fireplace, Vera in 1940, and in her garden, right

she loves it far too much to leave.

She said: “Growing up I had a wonderful childhood. I had four proposals towards the end of the war but I didn’t want to be tied down. I liked to travel.”

Her parents never considered buying the home and Vera still rents it from the same

family: “I did consider moving at one time to buy a house, but my dad wouldn’t let me. He said I didn’t want to get into property – of course he was wrong.”

She will celebrate today with her nephew Kevin, 68. Vera said: “Home is where the heart is. I am very lucky to live here.”
