LAUGHING STOCK

‘ United do not respect Fergie – or the past’

- By David McDonnell

PATRICE EVRA says Manchester United have become a laughing stock and that people within Old Trafford ‘ do not even respect Sir Alex Ferguson’. United lost their opening game of the season at home to Crystal Palace, with fans growing angry at the lack of signings in this summer’s transfer

window. Former United defender Evra said: “We’ve become a club where people just laugh about us. But we let people talk like that.

“Some people at the club, they don’t even respect Sir Alex Ferguson.

“People will say, ‘ Patrice, you’re going to bring so much negativity’. But what do you want me to say? I can’t lie, especially to our fans. I will never lie to any person who loves this club.

“Before us, Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, they made the history of the club – that’s why we try to respect it.

“The team in 1999, us in 2008, and now some people just want to blow this legacy all away. For what? Business? Come on guys. We’re better than that.”

Evra is critical of the failure to land the club’s targets – especially top targets.

He added: “Fans have to understand it’s not because you buy five, six, 10 players, then your team will improve. But at least get the main target – and that’s what we’re not doing any more.”
