Cases up as death toll rises

A FUR­THER 4,926 cases of coro­n­avirus were con­firmed across Bri­tain yes­ter­day – the high­est fig­ure since early May.

Daily cases have risen al­most five- fold in the past month with the to­tal since the out­break be­gan now pass­ing 400,000.

There were also wor­ry­ing signs that deaths may be climb­ing, with 37 an­nounced last night – the high­est since mid- July.

This brings the UK to­tal to 41,825.

Dr Layla McCay, direc­tor at the NHS Con­fed­er­a­tion of health ser­vice providers, said: “We are start­ing to see the pre­dicted in­crease of deaths.

“This gives par­tic­u­lar cause for con­cern fol­low­ing Gov­ern­ment ex­perts warn­ing that there could be 200 deaths a day by midNovem­ber with­out clear and de­ci­sive ac­tion.

“We must pre­pare for a chal­leng­ing win­ter.”
