Cases up as death toll rises
A FURTHER 4,926 cases of coronavirus were confirmed across Britain yesterday – the highest figure since early May.
Daily cases have risen almost five- fold in the past month with the total since the outbreak began now passing 400,000.
There were also worrying signs that deaths may be climbing, with 37 announced last night – the highest since mid- July.
This brings the UK total to 41,825.
Dr Layla McCay, director at the NHS Confederation of health service providers, said: “We are starting to see the predicted increase of deaths.
“This gives particular cause for concern following Government experts warning that there could be 200 deaths a day by midNovember without clear and decisive action.
“We must prepare for a challenging winter.”
