It defies logic how Spurs can afford Bale’s salary

SO Gareth Bale has returned to England and his reward is earnings of £ 600,000 a week (“Harry’s great entertainers”, September 21).

I have to wonder how this sort of wage can be afforded by Spurs in the current situation, even with help from Real Madrid.

Gareth Bale will not be running into burning buildings to rescue people, he will not be performing life- saving surgery, nursing poorly children or facing knife- wielding criminals.

I love football and, of course, Gareth can’t be blamed, as who in their right mind would turn down such money, if offered?

But I sincerely hope he is appreciative of his incredible good fortune.
