STUART BINGHAM insists this week’s Covid chaos at the European Masters should act as a big “wake- up call”.

The former world champion moved into the second round at Milton Keynes with a 5- 3 win over Louis Heathcote.

But Bingham was stunned to see five players sent home on Tuesday after Gary Wilson and Daniel Wells both failed coronavirus checks – the pair were the first to test positive from nearly 400.

Bingham said: “It’s a wake- up call. Everyone was a bit blase about it after the negative tests this year.

“It shows you how severe this can be. As much as this game is a lonely sport generally, at the moment you have to be on your own. It’s scary times.”

Meanwhile world No1 Judd Trump last night became the first player into the third round after he crushed Germany’s Lukas Kleckers 5- 1.
