De Boer deal to coach the Dutch

-

FRANK DE BOER has been appointed Holland head coach on a two- year deal that will run until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

De Boer, 50, succeeds Ronald Koeman, who stepped down last month to take charge at Barcelona.

The former midfielder won 112 caps for Holland from 1990 to 2004, with only Wesley Sneijder and Edwin van der Sar playing more games for the national team. De Boer began his coaching career at Ajax in 2010 and won the league title in the first four of his six seasons in Amsterdam.

He has also managed Inter Milan, Crystal Palace — lasting just five games before he was sacked — and MLS side Atlanta United.

De Boer assisted head coach Bert van Marwijk when Holland reached the 2010 World Cup final. His first match will be the friendly at home to Mexico on October 7 before the Nations League duels with Bosnia- Herzegovina and Italy.
