DIMITAR BERBATOV has told Manchester United to make some new signings or forget about winning trophies again this season.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is feeling the heat after a disappoint­ing start to their campaign.

They opened with a shock 3- 1 home defeat by Crystal Palace on Saturday, above, before limping past Luton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

While rivals have made significan­t signings this summer, United have spent just £ 40million on Donny van de Beek and continue to hit a brick wall in their pursuit of England and Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho.

Berbatov has warned his former club it will be a long and fruitless campaign unless serious talent is lured to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on October 5.

United have not won silverware since 2017 and Berbatov said: “United needed to hit the ground running but they did the exact opposite.

“It was only the first game but they looked awful – slow and no transition between the lines.

“I don’t remember many efforts on target and all of that speaks volumes about the attacking prowess of the team. In the end, Palace won deservedly. There’s no excuse for United, and hopefully it will just be a first- game blip.”
