AS MANY of you know, I have been quite a fierce critic of the Government over their failure to encourage people to seek medical help for illnesses that aren’t related to the virus.

So watching the press conference on Wednesday I must admit I breathed a huge sigh of relief when Professor Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer, went out of his way to stress that the NHS is “absolutely open for business”, a point backed up by the Prime Minister in his usual unique way.

As more and more statistics drip out about the damage the lockdown has caused to healthcare across the board, figures I’m sure Professor Whitty is acutely aware of, this is a message that I’d like to see plastered across the country. It seems like there are hundreds of different ministers, I see a new one every day, each with a grandiose title.

Let’s start hearing them pump it out too, all it would take is an okay from Downing Street and it would reach millions.

Another step in the right direction is the reintroduction of more regular press conferences which seems to be happening.

I know many don’t want to see it, but in my view any extra transparency can only be a good thing.

I was disappointed that not one journalist asked about the impact on healthcare, but hopefully that will come.

On the whole, I feel like the debate is moving in the right direction and becoming more balanced.

I honestly think it will save lives. From now, don’t take my word for it but listen to the chief medical officer.

If you have any issues – seek medical help. It’s your life, save it!
