Why Drs Doom and Gloom will be death of us

THERE IS always one acid test that will reveal when a government is lying to you, as at present in this country. It is when it repeatedly refuses to reveal figures that are inconvenient to it.

We are daily told in every newspaper and newscast what the infection level is. We are never told what is the death level per ( say) 10,000 infections. If the public could perceive how tiny the actual death toll is, the entire national panic would probably end. What would happen then to the Government’s rule- by- decree policy?

That is why many more Tory MPs must support Sir Graham Brady to force Boris Johnson and his East German- resembling government to return to a state of being answerable to the House of Commons and not to the twin idiots Whitty and Vallance.

NOT SO long ago our TV screens were wall- to- wall adverts to smoke. When it was recognised what a killer lung cancer really was, they were banned – one of the prohibitions one has to agree with. Another social ill is alcoholism – so hard liquor adverts are almost absent.

Yet compulsive gambling, like a drug addition, destroys life savings, weekly income, marriages, careers and lives. Each evening we are bombarded with TV exhortations to gamble online – always “responsibly” of course.

But an addiction knows no “responsible” limits or it would not be an addiction. The compulsive gambler just cannot stop.

So why show him exactly how to ruin himself?

A VILLAGE neighbour had a mother, aged 54. She was diagnosed with cancer, but a very treatable version which, with regular chemo, could have permitted her years of enjoyable life. That was the day before lockdown last spring.

Her first therapy was cancelled. It remained cancelled because it was not Covid- sourced.

She died last week, another of the invisible, unrecorded toll stemming from the Government’s hysterical exaggeration of Covid- 19.
