Get behind PM, a leader who dares to think big
BORIS Johnson’s conference speech was a comeback moment for a Prime Minister whose skills and character have been tested by fire. He was on a mission to prove his legendary mojo is undiminished and his ambition to change Britain for the better is undimmed.
He delivered a speech rich with verbal pyrotechnics as he laid out ambitions to at long last put social care on a sound financial footing, revive the economy, harness wind energy, help people on to the housing ladder and unlock new educational opportunities. His ambition is welcome at this time of national challenge and should trigger action. Previous governments that enjoyed a buoyant economy and low unemployment failed to establish the social care system the nation needs. Today’s difficulties must not be used as an excuse to again kick the issue into the long grass.
The NHS was born when the nation was battle- bruised and cash- strapped. Ministers should take inspiration from their pioneering predecessors and dare to think big. We can help win a brighter future for Britain by working to boost the economy, suppress the virus and get behind a Prime Minister who longs to see the nation thrive.
