A write royal collection...
Maid
PERSONAL letters penned to a royal maid by the Queen and Prince Charles are expected to fetch £ 10,000 at auction next week.
Marjorie Dawson, who grew up in Bolton and was orphaned at 12, worked at every royal residence and travelled the world with the family.
Charles wrote to her after the death of the Queen Mother saying how he “dreaded her eventual departure” and there was “an enormous chasm in my life”. Marjorie, who died last year aged 104, worked for Princess Alexandra from 1954 until her retirement in 1990.
She was honoured with a Royal Victoria Medal and visited by her boss on her 100th birthday. Jim Spencer, of auctioneers Hansons in Derby, said much of the “important collection” is untouched.
