1993: Liam Brady resigned as manager of Celtic. His assistant Joe Jordan was put in temporary charge before Lou Macari was named the new boss.
1996: Steve Coppell was confirmed as manager of First Division Manchester City, ending the club’s six- week search for a successor to Alan Ball. Coppell lasted just 33 days before quitting.
2000: Kevin Keegan resigned as England coach after the 1- 0 defeat by Germany in the final match to be played at the old Wembley Stadium.
2003: Rio Ferdinand was omitted from the England squad to face Turkey in their crucial Euro
2004 qualifier after missing a drugs test.
2009: Avram Grant was appointed director of football at Portsmouth. He went on to become manager but could not save the club from relegation. 2010: England’s Rebecca Adlington won gold in the women’s 800m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
2012: West Indies won the ICC World Twenty20 title, beating Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final in Colombo.
2014: Premiership side Wasps were given the green light for a £ 30million takeover of Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.
2015: South Africa winger Bryan Habana equalled Jonah Lomu’s record of 15 tries in Rugby World Cups as he led the Springboks into the quarter- finals with a crushing 64- 0 victory over the United States at London’s Olympic Stadium.
