Ozil saves Gunners’ ‘ big green guy’ from the chop

- By Matthew Dunn

MESUT OZIL has offered to pay the wages of club mascot Gunnersaurus after it emerged that the lifelong fan who played the role had lost his job due to cost- cutting measures.

Earlier this summer Arsenal announced 55 redundancies would be needed, but that did not stop them paying £ 45million for Thomas Partey in their final piece of transfer window activity.

Similarly, they remain committed to paying Ozil £ 350,000 a week despite no signs of him making a long- awaited return to action.

When it was confirmed that Jerry Quy, a lifelong Arsenal fan who first donned the giant 10ft dinosaur costume in 1993, was among those who were being let go, Ozil, tweeted: “I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”
