Dr Sharon Raymond d

When the pandemic took a grip last March, the out of hours GP ( right) t) devised several schemes to relieve pressure on the overburdened NHS.

Along with a friend, Alex Adams, she set up the Covid Crisis Response foundation and through a crowdfunding page sourced 50,000 desperately needed items of personal protective equipment.

Then she linked up with a taxi firm to create a Covid Cab Service, taking patients to and from hospitals.

While caring for her two daughters at home in Hendon, north- west London, she also launched a scheme to get oximeters to people who needed them urgently.

The devices measure oxygen levels in the blood, identifying those needing hospital admission.

“Because there was a shortage, I realised we could create a loan system and 200 volunteer bikers agreed to deliver and pick them up from patients’ homes,” she said.

Zane Powles

The assistant headteacher ( below) walked around 200 miles a month delivering 7,500 meals to needy children during lockdown. They were all prepared at Western Primary School in Grimsby, where Zane, 48, has worked for nine years.

“Other staff helped by delivering meals in their cars but I decided to walk so that I felt closer to the children I was visiting. I needed to know if they were safe, healthy, had access to food and if their parents needed help in any way,” he explained.

He also raised £ 9,500 for the Meals and More with a bike ride.

Captain Sir Thomas Moore

At the age of 99, Captain Tom ( right) began walking laps of his garden in Bedfordshire to raise money for the NHS. He hoped to raise £ 1,000 by his 100th birthday. But the old soldier’s indomitable determination captured the nation’s imagination and d donations poured in, raisin raising nearly £ 33million. He has since been kn knighted by the Queen a and had a Number O One hit record.

Nick Price and Nick Hart

Two doctors at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital who treated Bo Boris Johnson when he fell ill with Covid- 19, Dr N Nick Price and Dr Nick H Hart, are nominated. The Pr Prime Minister and his fiancee Carr Carrie Symonds named their baby Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas after the medics. Carrie paid tribute to the “two doctors who saved Boris’s life”.
